1. Important limitation of safety features
Sintem is not an emergency assistance, medical, rescue, private security, or law enforcement service. Sintem does not replace calling local emergency services.
SOS features are intended to notify members of your trusted group. The operation of SOS, location sharing, and notifications may depend on internet connectivity, device permissions, battery level, notification settings, operating-system behavior, third-party notification delivery services, and server availability.
Sintem is designed for transparent location sharing within trusted groups. Group members should understand when and with whom they share their location, and may manage access through application settings, device settings, and their participation in the group.
SOS features are intended to quickly notify group members of possible danger, transmit SOS-related data to them, and help them see your location in the application.
2. What data we collect
Account data
When you sign in to Sintem, we may receive data necessary to create and operate an account, including:
- internal user identifier;
- account email address;
- login identifiers and technical data necessary to create an account, sign in to the application, and protect access to the account;
- name, if provided when creating an account, signing in, or specified by you;
- profile data that you add yourself, such as display name or avatar.
Profile and in-group status data
Depending on the features used and the composition of your group, your profile and status data may be accessible to group members, including:
- display name;
- avatar;
- user status;
- status related to safety or SOS;
- data about last activity or presence in the application.
Location data
Sintem processes location data to operate location sharing, location history, and SOS features. Depending on your settings, system permissions, and use of the application, such data may include precise coordinates, last known location, accuracy information, direction and speed of movement, as well as the time of recording and receiving updates.
Location history may be stored as records associated with your account and the group in which the corresponding update was created. Such records are stored securely on our servers and may include data necessary to operate location history, safety features, and access settings.
If you have granted the relevant system permission, Sintem may receive location data in the background to maintain application features.
Group and invitation data
When you use group features, we may process data necessary to create groups, manage members, configure access, provide available features, and ensure service security.
Consent records
We may store records that you have accepted certain versions of:
- Terms of Use;
- Privacy Policy;
- Location Notice;
- group owner consent;
- join-group consent.
Such records help us understand which terms and notices were accepted before using certain features.
Application technical data
We may process technical data necessary for application operation, security, and diagnostics, including:
- device identifier or similar technical identifier;
- application version;
- platform and operating system;
- push token for sending notifications;
- language and regional settings of the device or application;
- session and authentication data necessary for sign-in, account security, and maintaining authorized access;
- IP address, server log data, request times, technical errors, diagnostic events, and performance information;
- if applicable, information about device system permission status;
- technical data necessary for security, application stability, abuse prevention, error diagnostics, and maintaining real-time feature operation.
Subscription data
If paid plans are available in Sintem, we may receive from the app store or related payment infrastructure data necessary to verify a subscription and provide access to paid features, such as:
- active plan or product;
- subscription and renewal status;
- access expiration date;
- technical information about purchase, subscription, renewal, cancellation, refund, or access restoration.
Avatars and uploaded images
If you upload an avatar or other profile image, we may process the image file and related technical data necessary to store, protect, upload, and display the image in the application.
An avatar may be visible to other users within the scope of application features.
Support inquiries
If you contact support, we may collect information that you send to us, including your email address and the content of the inquiry.
3. How we use data
We use data to:
- provide, maintain, and improve Sintem features;
- ensure the operation of accounts, sign-in, groups, access settings, subscriptions, and available features;
- ensure the operation of location, SOS, safety notifications, and other application features;
- send important service, account, legal, and safety notifications;
- provide support, analyze service operation, improve application stability, and fix errors;
- prevent abuse, unauthorized access, and unlawful use;
- fulfill legal obligations.
Precise location, location history, and SOS data are used only for application features, safety, and related service purposes.
We do not sell users' personal data and do not use it, including location data, for advertising monetization.
4. How location sharing works
Location may be shared among group members when location sharing or SOS is enabled.
Access within the group
When using group features, data related to your account, profile, activity, device, location, and safety may be accessible to members of your group within the scope of Sintem features, your settings, and device permissions.
5. Push notifications
We may use push tokens and related notification delivery services to send you service notifications, safety notifications, and other application notifications.
Notifications may contain information related to the account, group, group members, safety, subscriptions, service changes, and other application features.
6. Data retention periods
Sintem retains personal data for the period necessary to provide application features and services, fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, ensure security, prevent abuse, handle inquiries and claims, protect rights, fulfill legal obligations, and comply with our agreements with users.
The retention period may vary depending on the data category, feature used, group settings, current plan, processing purpose, and applicable law. This also applies to location history, if such a feature is available.
The specific retention period for location history depends on your current plan and is specified in the plan description in the application and in the app store.
Leaving a group by itself does not always mean immediate physical deletion of previously created location history records. Such records may be retained until the end of the applicable retention period, scheduled deletion, deletion of the associated group, or other deletion in accordance with this Policy.
After the end of the applicable retention period, data is deleted, anonymized, or becomes unavailable for ordinary use.
Backups may retain limited copies of data for the backup period. After account deletion, data may temporarily remain in backups until scheduled deletion or overwrite, but is not used for ordinary application operation, except for recovery after failure, security, fulfillment of legal obligations, or investigation of abuse.
7. Groups, group owners, and invitations
The group owner is responsible for whom they invite to the group. If the group owner invites a minor, they confirm that they are the minor's parent, legal representative, or have the necessary rights, permissions, and consents to invite such a user to the group and to use Sintem features, including location sharing and SOS notifications.
Before creating a group, the group owner must accept separate group owner consent.
Before joining a group, the invited user must accept separate join-group consent, if such consent is required for the relevant feature.
8. Privacy of minors
Sintem is designed for family safety and trusted groups. Sintem is not intended for independent use by minors without the permission and supervision of a parent, legal representative, or other authorized adult, if such permission is required by applicable law.
If a minor uses Sintem, their parent, legal representative, or other authorized adult must permit and supervise such use, including joining a group, location sharing, use of SOS features, and receipt of safety notifications.
If a user is below the age at which applicable law permits independent consent to the processing of personal data, their parent or legal representative must provide the necessary permission or consent before using Sintem.
If the group owner invites a minor, they confirm that they are the minor's parent, legal representative, or have the necessary rights, permissions, and consents for such invitation and for processing the minor's data within Sintem features.
If we learn or have reasonable grounds to believe that a minor is using Sintem without the necessary permission, consent, or legal basis, we may restrict, suspend, or delete the account, access to the group, individual features, and related data, if necessary to comply with the law, protect users' safety, or protect the service.
If provided by applicable law, a parent or legal representative may request access to a minor's data, correction or deletion of such data, as well as restriction of further processing of such data. We may request information necessary to verify the authority of such person and process the request.
If you are a parent or legal representative and believe that a minor is using Sintem without your permission, please contact us at: support@sintem.net.
9. Who we share data with
Group members
Your location and related safety data may be visible to members of the group you joined when location sharing or SOS is enabled.
Group members may see data that becomes available to them through Sintem features. We do not control how group members use or disclose information they have seen outside the application.
Service providers
We may use third-party service providers that help us operate, such as:
- cloud and server infrastructure providers;
- database, file storage, and backup providers;
- push notification delivery providers;
- sign-in providers, app stores, and related subscription services;
- email delivery providers;
- user support providers;
- diagnostics, error monitoring, and security providers, if used;
- mapping and routing services, if used;
- payment and subscription infrastructure;
- legal, accounting, and professional advisors, if necessary;
- government authorities, if required by law.
We do not permit service providers to use users' personal data for their own independent purposes. Such providers must process data only to the extent necessary to provide services to Sintem and apply protection measures appropriate to the nature of the data processed.
For legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to:
- comply with applicable law;
- respond to lawful requests;
- protect the rights, safety, or property of users, Sintem, or other persons;
- investigate abuse, fraud, security incidents, or unlawful activity;
- comply with and enforce our Terms of Use.
In a business transfer
If Sintem is involved in a merger, sale, reorganization, financing, acquisition, or asset transfer, user data may be transferred as part of such transaction, subject to compliance with this Privacy Policy or substantially similar rules.
10. Service email notifications
We may use the email address associated with your account to send important service messages, including:
- account notifications;
- safety notifications;
- subscription notifications;
- changes to the Terms of Use;
- changes to the Privacy Policy;
- important changes to Sintem features.
We do not use your email for marketing emails without separate consent, if such consent is required.
11. Your settings, control, and rights
You may:
- disable location sharing in the application;
- manage location permissions in device settings;
- leave a group;
- delete your account;
- request access, correction, or deletion of your data, if applicable;
- open and read the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
For safety purposes, certain group actions, including leaving a group, deleting a group, or changing group membership, may be temporarily restricted for a limited period after SOS activation. An account deletion request may be accepted for processing and fulfilled after the end of such period.
Some Sintem features may not work if location permissions are disabled.
If SOS is activated, location processing may be performed within the SOS feature in accordance with your previously accepted consent and application settings.
Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to access your personal data, request its correction or deletion, restrict processing, obtain a copy of your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent, if processing is based on consent.
Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing performed before such withdrawal. If you disable device permissions or withdraw consent to location processing, some Sintem features may work incorrectly or become unavailable.
To exercise your rights, contact us at policy@sintem.net. We may request information necessary to verify your identity and process the request.
If provided by applicable law, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority.
12. Account deletion
You may request account deletion in the application.
If an account deletion request is received within a limited period after SOS activation, we may accept it for processing and fulfill it after the end of such period, if necessary to protect the safety of members or fulfill legal obligations.
After the end of such period, the request will be fulfilled unless there are other lawful grounds for limited retention of data.
Upon account deletion, we delete or anonymize personal data associated with the account. If you are a group owner, deleting your account also deletes that group, and members' access to it ceases. Group-related location history is deleted or becomes unavailable.
Some records may be retained separately in a limited scope, such as subscription and transaction records, records of accepted consents, account security records, records of previously used sign-in methods, records of account restrictions or abuse prevention, as well as individual location history records until the end of the applicable retention period or technical deletion, if necessary to comply with the law, ensure security, handle inquiries and claims, billing, subscription restoration, protect rights, or for other lawful purposes.
13. Legal bases for processing
Depending on applicable law, Sintem may process personal data on the basis of performance of a contract with the user, consent, legitimate interests of Sintem, or fulfillment of legal obligations.
We process account, profile, group, subscription, and support data primarily to provide Sintem features and fulfill our agreements with users.
Precise and background location is processed to operate the map, location sharing, location history, and SOS features on the basis of consent and to provide the relevant service features within our agreements with the user. Such processing also depends on device system permissions.
Technical data, IP address, security logs, and consent records may be processed to protect the service, prevent abuse, perform diagnostics, confirm accepted terms, and fulfill legal obligations.
If processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent in device settings, in application settings if such a setting is available, or by contacting us. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing performed before such withdrawal.
14. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including secure data transmission and restricted access to server infrastructure. Specific protection measures may depend on the infrastructure used.
However, no application, server, network, or method of data transmission is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that information will always be protected or that unauthorized access, loss, improper use, or disclosure will never occur.
If we become aware of a personal data security breach, we will take reasonable measures to investigate the incident, limit possible harm, and notify affected users or competent authorities, if such notification is required by applicable law.
15. International data processing
Your data may be processed and stored in the European Economic Area or other countries where our service providers are located. The laws of those countries may differ from the laws of your country.
If required by applicable law, we apply measures aimed at protecting data in such transfers.
16. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
If changes are material, we may notify you by email, through an in-app notification, or by other appropriate means.
If an updated Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, or Location Notice requires acceptance before further use of certain features, Sintem may ask you to review the update and accept it.
If an update requires acceptance, we may restrict access to certain non-essential features until the update is accepted. At the same time, processing strictly necessary for an active SOS event or the safety of members may continue within previously selected settings, system permissions, and applicable law.
